Weekend Plans

1. Saturday is the Dallas Flea at Southside on Lamar. Part flea market part indie crafters, there is much shopping to be had here.

2. Saturday is also the season opener for the Assassination City Roller Derby at Fair Park. I've always wanted to join a roller derby, but the Architect thinks I would injure myself. I can injure myself walking down the hall in flats and run into the door frame. At least in a roller derby I'd have an excuse for that huge bruise on my arm.

3. If you are a runner the Rock and Roll Marathon is this Sunday. Bret Michaels of Poison will be playing too! If you are more of a couch potato, the Texas Theater is showing episodes of the Dallas television series.

Weekend Plans-Festival Edition

1. Put your green on and head down to Fair Park for the North Texas Irish Festival. There will be celtic music, beer, irish step dancing, beer, storytelling, beer, vendors selling all matter of irish and celtic wares, and this thing called beer. Come see your blogger kick up her heels with Shandon School of Irish Dance. We dance at 5pm on Saturday and 1pm on Sunday.

2. Friday is the beginning of Savor Dallas this weekend. Friday night take the wine stroll through the Dallas Arts District from 5-8pm.

3. I know the last few weeks have not felt like Spring will ever get here, but one of the first signs of Spring is Dallas Blooms at the Dallas Arbortetum. The entrance plaza is a Lake|Flato design.

Preservation Dallas Fair Park Tour

On Saturday January, 23, 2010, Preservation Dallas will be leading a guided tour of Fair Park. The tour will highlight the park's recent restoration projects including the water show and Esplanade Fountain, the Tenor and Contralto sculptures and the Butterfly House at the Texas Discovery Gardens. Fair Park is home to one of the largest collections of Art Deco architecture in the US. It should be a fun and informative morning.

Weekend Plans

1. On Saturday Good Records will be having a holiday party complete with Santa, live holiday music, and milk and cookies. If you bring a toy for Toys for Tots and a canned good for the North Texas Food Bank you will receive 15% off your purchase.

2. Also on Saturday down at Southside on Lamar is the Dallas Flea. The market will feature Texas based designers and businesses such as Uptown Country Home, Stella Dallas, Haven, House of MacGregor, and Again & Again.

3. Sunday is the Fair Park Holiday at the newly renovated Esplanade fountains. There will be ornament making, free admission to all Fair Park museums, a performance by the Dallas Wind Symphony Quintet, and the official City of Dallas tree-lighting ceremony. This will also be the debut of the “Bellagio-style” Esplanade Fountain, with 272 jets that shoot water as high as 100 feet. Be sure to also check out the new bronze art deco sculptures CounterTenor and Contralto flanking the sides of the fountains.
