Fredericksburg, TX Re-Cap

Over the next few days I will be talking about the long weekend the Architect and I took down to Fredericksburg, TX.

First up is lodging. We stayed at the Roadrunner Inn on Main Street in downtown Fredericksburg.

Here are some pictures of our room.

Our room was basically a loft with the king size bed you see here, a sitting area and small kitchen.

A view back towards the front door and the kitchenette with concrete countertops.

Tomorrow a discussion of our favorite wineries!

Weekend Plans

The Architect and I are heading down to Fredericksburg for food, wine, and a wedding (yay Matt and Amber!). If we were in town this weekend, these are our top picks:

1. White Rock Homes Tour - the only homes tour in Dallas that focuses on mid-century modern. They will also have LEED certified new built home.

2. Taste some new wines and learn from the pros at the Dallas Wine and Food Festival.

3. Dust off that tux, put on your fancy dress and head to the Dallas Museum of Art for their Annual Art Ball.

Russel Wright American Modern Line Reissue

If you are a fan of mid-century modern design you have surely heard of Russel Wright. In fact, your parents or your grandparents probably owned a few pieces back in the day. Hopefully you were smart enough to snatch them up before they went into the garage sale.

Well if you didn't inherit any from mom and dad, here is your chance to own some of the iconic pieces in their original colors. LA-based Bauer Pottery is re-issuing pieces from the American Modern Line. Check out the line here.

More about Russel Wright here.

Tip of the hat to Apartment Therapy.

Rhett Miller to be on 30 Rock

Old 97s frontman, solo artist, and all around man with really nice hair, Rhett Miller, will be appearing on 30 Rock's season finale. Apparently, he will be twittering from the set.

Tip of the hat to the kids at FrontBurner.

Technology Upgrades

So I finally fulfilled one of my New Year's resolutions and bought a laptop this weekend. I even bought a wireless router so I can use the laptop around the house. I also set up the route all by myself - a major feat. The Architect is very happy with the new purchase because I will no longer be kicking him off the computer every time I want to blog or surf the interwebs.

So what else does this mean for you, my dear readers? I will now have the capability to blog while on the road!

Additionally, I have set up a Twitter feed. You can follow me at 4squaresperinch.

No new posts this week.

I am off to Louisville, KY this week for work, so I probably won't be able to post much this week. I'll be back this weekend after I have recovered from the Morrissey show on Friday night at the Palladium Ballroom.

Ciao!

Weekend Plans

1. Head on down to Deep Ellum for the Deep Ellum Arts Festival. Come on, when was the last you were there, 2005? The people don't bite, promise!

2. Saturday Night in the City starts this weekend at the Nasher Sculpture Center. This is one of my favorite things to do in the Spring and Summer. The weather also should cooperate, so be there or be my favorite shape - SQUARE!

3. Sunday, head over to the new restaurant, Bella, where there are cheap bottomless mimosa and 2 for 1 bloody marys.

Bad news for the Trinity River Project

Looks like the US Army Corps of Engineers has determined that the Trinity River levees are not up to snuff. So what does that mean? Well, if the city decides to continue with its plan to put in a "parkway"( tollway) between the levees and say there is a whole bunch of flooding, there might not be any federal funds to pay for clean up and damage. So we might not get that shiny new Calatrava bridge(s) and brand new park after all. Bummer.

The Dallas Observer's Unfair Park Blog has the entire report here, here, and here.
