Museum Tower v. Nasher Sculpture Center

D Magazine's cover article in its new issue is about the problems that the 40 story mirrored Museum Tower is causing for its neighbor, the Nasher Sculpture Center.  The story details how the original Museum Tower doubled in size, could be a risky investment for city taxpayers and how its mirrored facade is harming the Nasher Sculpture Center and its other neighbors.

Weekend Plans

1. KRLD Restaurant is in full swing this week.  The Architect and I will be dining at Nonna and Parigi.  Reservations are still available at lots of places.

2.  It is Tax Free Weekend and H&M opened yesterday at Northpark.  Coincidence? I think not.

3.  Martin Creed's installation art piece "Work No. 1190: Half the air in a given space" closes this weekend at the Nasher Sculpture Center on Sunday.  Head over to the de-installation party and take home a piece of the art (a shiny gold ballon).

Alexander Calder and Contemporary Art: Form, Balance, Joy

The weekend was the opening for Alexander Calder and Contemporary Art: Form, Balance, Joy at the Nasher Sculpture Center. The exhibit combines 30 of Calder's works with the works of 7 contemporary artists influence by his work.

Exhibition on view through March 6, 2011.

First Thursday Film Series at the Nasher

The Nasher Sculpture Center and the Dallas Film Society will be having free films the first Thursday of every month. April's showing is already past but get ready for May's showing of The Graduate. The evening will be moderated by WFAA's Gary Cogill.

First look at the Renzo Piano addition to the Kimbell Art Museum

Renzo Piano, architect of the Nasher Sculpture Center, has been tapped to design an addition to the Louis Kahn designed Kimbell Art Museum in Ft. Worth.
